Mi Vida Loca

Eighth graders were introduced to the BBC Spanish series named, Mi Vida LocaWe've been watching the series over the past couple of months. The series takes us to different parts of EspaƱa as we follow our host, Merche. Merche is a journalist who is investigating a future development in Las Islas Canarias. The students found the series adventurous and they always looked forward to future episodes. After we finished the series, students decided to create some games based on the series. One group led their classmates through a list of clues to find Merche. Another group gave their classmates scenes to act out. While another group, created a trivia contest for their classmates.

8th Graders Harvest their first Crops from their Garden!

8th Graders prepared a salad and steamed veggies for lunch today!  The salad included lettuce, cucumbers, strawberries, tomatoes, onion, avocados, and snap peas with a balsamic dressing.  The steamed veggies included swiss chard, kale, onion and a little olive oil.  Next week, we hope to harvest our broccoli.  I say "hope" because each day, the gophers eat more and more of our vegetables!

Harvesting our garden for Lunch on Tuesday

Just a reminder that we will be cooking swiss chard, kale and bacon with spices and making a side salad from the garden for lunch.  You may still want to bring a lunch, but the salads will be provided!  Now, if we can just get rid of that gopher, life would be great. :)

Please be thinking about Great Artists....So far we have these potential artists....

What do you think?  We should make a decision this week!

We have a gopher, yes, a big one, in the garden!!

Well, if you are wondering who ate our squash plants - here he is!  He has now infiltrated our big garden bed!  I am wondering if any of you are interested in finding an organic solution to fid him from our garden?  If you want to take on a little extra credit work, let me know.  In the mean time, I will also look into the matter.  We do not want to use any pesticides in the garden, so the solution needs to be organic.  Good luck and let me know what you learn about these cute critters who want our veggies!

Conjugando Los Verbos

Eighth graders reviewed their knowledge of conjugating past tense (preterite & imperfect) verbs while playing a gamed called, SEIS. Students are grouped together and given a sheet of verbs in their infinitive form. Students then roll a dice trying to obtain a number six (seis in Spanish). Once the student obtains a seis, they begin to conjugate the verbs in their appropriate form quickly. The trick is to finish conjugating before your fellow classmates roll a six and take the pen away. Students love this game as it is interactive as well as helps them remember how to conjugate the verbs in their appropriate form and tense. Below are some photos of the students in action.

Ki's Lunch Update

Starting on Monday, Ki's lunch will be available to NMY students in our NMY courtyard.  You will no longer have to go down to the elementary lunch line!  If you have wanted to try Ki's lunch but have not wanted to wait in line, now is the time.  This should make lunch easier and faster!  Enjoy!
